Gion festival and feminism[編集]

In a wider view, it would be, but personally I hesitate to call it so, since

  • The requirement to widen female participation hasn't come from fenimists but mainly their community own; the population of Kyoto central whose residents cerebrate the festival basically is decreasing year by year, and in some quarters they faced the fact they had no enough number of males to hold their tradition, therefore they began to claim women could be allowed to participant.
  • And, even such quarters allowed female to join, participation of women is still partially both geographically and chronologically. Some quarters still permit no women to touch their floats (women are forbidden to enter those dedicated or "sacred" floats) and no women join dragging those floats in the main parade.

However, if you wish, you can refer another feministque request around Sumo tournament. The ring is also forbidden for women, therefore a dispute arose when a female governer of Osaka wanted to enter the ring to give a trophy to the champion of tournement representing Osaka Prefecture (iirc, in a certain year at the end of 20C). --Aphaia 2006年7月21日 (金) 10:45 (UTC)[返信]
